As a result of the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has said that the Federal Government is pressing for compensation for Nigerians affected.
The statement concerning this development was made by Mrs Dabiri-Erewa at the maiden Diaspora Lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The title of the lecture was: “Role of Africans in Diaspora in the Transformation of a University of Technology.”
Dabiri–Erewa’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr Abdul-Rahman Balogun represented her in the event, as crucial issues were noted, stating that the Nigerian government was also putting in place measures to ensure perpetrators were prosecuted and justice is obtained.
It was revealed, according to her that, those that have been evacuated to Nigeria would be well taken care of.
In the area of the role other Nigerians can play concerning the ravaging issue, Dabiri-Erewa also enjoined all state governments to create a Diaspora Desk, saying Nigeria has the highest diaspora potentials in Africa and the third in the world.
